The Challenge
RV Karma are a new company selling tobacco-free nicotine products in the United Kingdom and Europe, they initially started moving shipments from their factory in India by air freight, with direct shipping to their end clients and having their customers handle the clearance and delivery of each shipment, which caused many issues with visibility of the shipment, and delays with customs clearance which then resulted in the additional costs such as storage charges at the airport.
This ultimately meant longer than expected delivery times to their customers and less control over the supply chain process from India to the UK.
The Solution
Our team assessed the clients current processes, both in the UK & Sweden which is where their air freight was arriving, we identified many areas of improvement to streamline the customs process and delivery to each consignee.
RV Karma were also not taking advantage of the preference rate of Customs Duty for the products they were importing from India to the UK & EU, so we also consulted with the shipper to apply for a REX (Registered Exporter System) number, which then reduced the Customs Duty rate from 16% to 11.60%.
We also provided full visibility via our web based portal ScanCloud, our transport management systems (TMS) provides milestone updates along each point of the journey, which automatically notifies the customer by email. Vital documents are also stored on our secure server, such as customs, waybills, shipping invoices, customs documents and proof of delivery can be viewed at a click of a button.
The Results
Some of the benefits realised from working with Scanlon Freight was control of freight spend and visibility of shipments that we handle in the UK & Sweden for RV Karma, by utilising not just our ScanCloud system but by having a dedicated account manager to talk with should there be a new challenge or providing real time updates on a delivery.
By leveraging our expertise with customs and compliance in the UK & Sweden, the client is able to focus on the main business of expanding their nicotine pouch business in the UK and Europe, along with new markets for their brand as it continues to grow.
